WHAT IT MEANS TO BE “BORN AGAIN”
MATTHEW 1:21
TO BE BORN AGAIN MEANS:
I. MAN IS SAVED FROM THE HABITUAL PRACTICE OF SIN
A. YOU CAN MASTER SIN INSTEAD OF SIN MASTERING YOU; ROMANS 6:14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
B. A LOT DEPENDS UPON YOU; ROMANS 6:16-18 “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.”
II. MAN IS SAVED FROM THE HORRIBLE POLLUTION OF SIN
A. PSALM 40:2 “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”
B. II PETER 2:20 “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.”
C. WHAT ARE THE POLLUTIONS OF THE WORLD? I CORINTHIANS 6:9, 10 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”
D. THE RESULTS OF SALVATION; I CORINTHIANS 6:11 “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
III. MAN IS SAVED FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN
A. ROMANS 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
B. EZEKIEL 18:4 “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”
C. HEBREWS 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE OF SALVATION IS WRAPPED UP IN JOHN 3: 16, 17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
